Kentucky College Coaches

Kentucky College Coaches (KCC) is a statewide AmeriCorps program that places mentors in both secondary and postsecondary schools to support college access and student success. These AmeriCorps service members are tasked with acting as coaches to selected students, helping them be successful in all aspects of their school career. At the high school level, the student participants are encouraged to think about, apply for and achieve acceptance to college or some sort of postsecondary option. This involves doing whole-school activities as well as one-on-one mentoring with core students from each grade level (9th through 12th grade). The mentees are typically students who will likely get through high school, but who are unlikely to go to college; who are from low-income families; and who would be first-generation college attendees.
KHEAA participates in the KCC Program, which is funded in part with a grant to the Kentucky Campus Compact through Serve Kentucky, by sponsoring AmeriCorps members at 32 public high schools with traditionally low college-going rates and high free-and reduced lunch eligibility that were being served by few or no college access programs. KHEAA has served as an intermediary partner in the KCC Program since the 2010-2011 school year.
