Repaying Your Loans

Beginning Repayment

Federal Stafford Loan borrowers have a six-month grace period after they graduate, leave school or drop below half-time enrollment before having to start repaying Stafford Loans. It’s not a bad idea, however, to start repaying immediately if you can do so.

Repayment on a Federal PLUS Loan begins when the last disbursement for the loan is made. That means the repayment period for each PLUS Loan will begin on a different date.

You must make payments even if you don’t get a bill or repayment notice. Statements are sent to you as a convenience, and you have to make payments even if you don’t receive any statements. If you haven’t received any statements, make sure your loan servicer has your current address.
